ONTARIO - The Tiger hurlers split with Burns during doubleheader action Friday in Ontario losing the first game 6-3 and then coming back to take game two 3-1.
Burns jumped out up front in the first inning when Ontario's Ryan Laubacher gave up a home run to Burns' Tommy Ghost Dog. In the third, Ghost Dog blasted another homer followed by Steven Attleberger scoring a run to give Burns the 3-0 advantage. Another run was added in the fourth and two more in the fifth before Ontario decided to play some ball.
Down six, Ontario rallied in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings scoring one run in each by Jake Turner, Bryson Sap, and Guillermo Garcia but the game ended with the Tigers down 6-3.
“With eight hits, we should be able to score more than three runs,” Tiger coach Les Horn said. We were a bit tight.”
Ryan Laubacher pitched four innings for seven hits, four strikeouts and three walks. Sapp came in for three, faced 12 batters and put eight away with two walks.
“Our pitchers did a good job,” Horn said. “But we need to shore-up our defense.”
In game two of the doubleheader, Tiger Guillermo Garcia took to the mound for seven innings allowing five hits, one run, five base on balls and sent five back to the dugout.
“Garcia did a great job. We played defense and got some timely hitting.”
Tiger Turner went 1-for-2 at the plate and scored a run and Laubacher went 1-for-2 and scored a run and had an RBI. Riley Horn also had an RBI.
“Offensively we weren't great but with good pitching it was enough,” Horn said.
