New Ontario motel nearly
ready to open

ONTARIO —The exterior is pretty much done, the parking lot is paved and the final housekeeping chores are underway, signaling that Ontario’s Holiday Inn Express and Suites is almost ready for guests and will open before the end of August.

The exact date has not been established as some final details are still being wrapped up, Robert Quinn, owner of TQ Properties, which also owns the Holiday Inn and Rodeway Inn, both on the northside of East Idaho Avenue, said.

The Holiday Inn Express and Suites is situated along Southeast 10th Street near the Sizzler, butting up against the eastbound on-ramp to Interstate 84.

The massive four-story building has 96 rooms, configured in 28 suites and 68 standard rooms. The first floor will be devoted mostly to public space, which will include a meeting room for up to 50 people, an indoor swimming pool, fitness room, a guest laundry and a great room, where the continental breakfast will be served.

“It’s going to be beautiful,” Quinn said. “The interior is coming along nicely. The landscaping is almost done.”

There would be some rooms ready to rent by this evening, Quinn said. But, “they (the corporation) want everything done.”

The only thing left for the electrician to do is ensure the fire alarm system  works, Quinn said.

“Electricians are among the first on the job and one of the last to leave,” he said.

The main difference between the express and the Holiday Inn is the restaurant and lounge, Quinn said. The express is designed for people who want a bed and then want to get up and go, Quinn said. For them, the hotel will offer the “Express Start Breakfast Bar,” featuring cinnamon rolls, breads, juices, fruits and even hardboiled eggs.
