Public workshop on historical interpretation offered Ontario A free public workshop to help museums, cemeteries, historic districts and historic sites strengthen their education and interpretive programs will take place in Ontario. The workshop, “Getting Your Site on the Map: Ideas and Tools for Interpreting Historic Locations,” will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Four Rivers Cultural Center, 676 S.W. Fifth Ave., Ontario. While providing tools for inclusive and creative interpretation efforts, workshop participants will examine Web sites, signs, brochures, tours, living history and more. Participants will leave with easy-to-implement ideas to highlight the special qualities of their historic resource. The workshop is free of charge and is being offered along with several other sessions that weekend by the Heritage Programs Division of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. Credit union manager sentenced to 2 years EUGENE (AP) — A former credit union manager in Toledo has been sentenced to two years in prison for embezzling more than $500,000. Federal prosecutors said that 49-year-old Marcella Gwyn Miller of Springfield pleaded guilty in March to embezzling nearly $460,000 from the Georgia-Pacific Toledo Employees Federal Credit Union in Toledo, where she formerly lived with her family. Miller also admitted to embezzling $32,771 from the Toledo Fire and Rescue Volunteer Association and $16,311.46 from the Toledo High School Boosters Club. Miller admitted to embezzling over a 10-year period after an audit of the credit union in February 2007. U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken also ordered Miller to pay full restitution. Counties combine forces to catch cattle shooters POCATELLO (AP) — Law enforcement officials in two eastern Idaho counties are merging their rural programs to help catch those responsible for shooting and killing dozens of cows and horses. Authorities in Bingham and Bonneville counties are combining their range deputy programs. They say the merger will allow all information and tips to be pooled, ideally improving the odds of solving a case. ‘‘It makes good common sense to work together,’’ said Bonneville County Sheriff Paul Wilde. ‘Hands Around the Park for Recovery’ event planned ONTARIO Celebrating the 19th annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month, “Hands Around the Park for Recovery” will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Lions Park in Ontario. Officials expect heavy traffic for OSU-USC game CORVALLIS (AP) — Expect traffic jams and hard-to-find parking spots when the Oregon State University football team squares off against the No. 1-ranked University of Southern California. Officials say congestion is likely Thursday in Corvallis. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. A sellout is expected. Lt. Jeff Lanz of the state police says the game traffic will mingle with workday traffic. And there’s road construction for drivers to deal with. Additional law enforcement officers will be working inside and outside Reser Stadium.
