Last modified: Thursday, October 9, 2008 10:59 AM PDT Huffman seeks second term on Nyssa board By Larry Meyer Argus Observer NYSSA — Brent Huffman, who is seeking a second term on the Nyssa City Council in the November general election, said the highlight of his first term has been watching the town’s wastewater treatment project move forward, and he would like to be involved in its future progression. Huffman, 41, who his completing a four-year term, is in a field of six candidates who seek to fill four positions on the Nyssa council — three, four-year terms and one two-year term, which goes to the person with the fourth-lowest number of votes. Born and raised in Nyssa, Huffman has been an agent for American Family Insurance for nearly eight years and was a Nyssa Police Department officer for 11 years. “I have a very strong interest in the community. I want to serve in the best way I can,” he said. Commenting on the progress of the treatment plant, Huffman said, “it’s nice to see the project coming closer to completion.” It should serve the city well for the next 20 to 25 years, he said. Another highlight, he said, was having City Hall moved to a newer building on Main Street, where it is more visible and should serve the residents well for many years. “Trying to provide as many services as we can with the resources we have” is the big challenge for the city, Huffman said, adding he understands that people have concerns about water rates. Pursuing projects to improve the city streets as funds are available is another one of his goals, he said. Huffman said he would also like to see some steps secured to attract more business and employers to the community. During his first term on the council there was a learning curve on how city government works, he said, and he said he feels he can better use that experience in a  second term. Huffman and his wife, Nancy, have two sons.
