Oregon 541 area gets additional code: 458
SALEM (AP) — The Public Utility Commission has added a telephone area code for much of Oregon: 458.
Beginning in 2010, it will be assigned in the area that uses 541 — all of the state outside the populous northwest corner.
Adding a number in the 541 area is essentially the solution the commission came to in 2000 when it added 971 in the 503 area of northwest Oregon.
Higher Balance Institute faces sex abuse lawsuit
PORTLAND (AP) — The Higher Balance Institute and its founders face a sex abuse lawsuit.
The complaint accuses the Beaverton spiritual organization and founders Eric Pepin and Jamison Priebe of sexually abusing a teenage boy while he was their disciple.
The lawsuit was filed Oct. 8 in Multnomah County Circuit Court by Portland attorney Kelly Clark, who filed many of the abuse lawsuits against the Roman Catholic Church in Oregon settled last year for more than $50 million.
Lawsuit filed to stop Idaho feedlot near monument
BOISE (AP) — A lawsuit has been filed to prevent a massive animal feedlot from being built near a national historic site in south-central Idaho where 120,000 Japanese-Americans were confined during World War II.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation is among a coalition of groups and individuals who on Tuesday filed the lawsuit in 5th District Court seeking to stop the planned 13,000-animal dairy.
Boise State to be smoke free in 2009
BOISE (AP) — Boise State University is poised to make its campus smoke free next fall.
University officials announced Tuesday plans to prohibit smoking on all university owned and leased properties by the start of fall semester 2009.
The ban applies to all students, employees, contractors, volunteers and visitors on university property, and includes cigarettes, pipes and other smoke generating products. |
