ONTARIO — A Malheur County Community Corrections probation officer was arrested Thursday during an investigation by the Malheur County Sheriff’s Office and the High Desert Task Force.
Sydnie Maglaughlin, 36, Nyssa, was arrested at her work on charges of possession of a controlled substance, third-degree theft and third-degree official misconduct, according to a Malheur County Sheriff’s Office press release.
After being lodged in the Malheur County Jail, Maglaughlin posted bail — $1,500 — and was released. She was also placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
Malheur County Sheriff Andy Bentz said, at this time, he is unable to report many details of the case.
“As you know, the criminal investigation is still going, and we also have administrative side issues,” he said.
He said, however, the investigation involved a report to the sheriff’s office specifically about Maglaughlin and her position for Community Corrections, leading to the official misconduct charges.
“The information came to us that there were irregularities and inconsistencies noticed and the possibility of prescription items missing,” Bentz said.
He said the prescription medication belonged to individuals.
Bentz said the official misconduct and theft charges are both misdemeanors, but controlled substance charges can vary.
He said the case has been referred to the Malheur County District Attorney’s Office. Maglaughlin’s arraignment has been set for Nov. 18 at Malheur County Circuit Court.
According to the press release, Maglaughlin was hired as a corrections technician by Malheur County Community Corrections Work Release Center division in 2004. In 2006, Maglaughlin was transferred to the probation services.
