Idaho ski resorts fall victim to dry weather

KETCHUM (AP) — Sun Valley, Idaho’s best-known ski resort, has missed a Thanksgiving opening for the fourth time since 1994.

The region’s other ski areas have also fallen victim to dry weather that’s deposited too little snow to begin skiing.

Jack Sibbach, a Sun Valley spokesman, says a temperature inversion prevented Sun Valley from making much snow.

There are only about 9 inches atop Bald Mountain, at the summit of Sun Valley’s lifts.

Other Idaho ski resorts also remain closed, including Schweitzer Mountain in Sandpoint, Silver Mountain in Kellogg, Bogus Basin above Boise and McCall’s Brundage.

Neither Lookout Pass on the Idaho-Montana border nor Pomerelle in Albion, ordinarily reliable early-season resorts, have fired up lifts.

Tamarack Resort in Donnelly is offering very limited skiing on beginner terrain.
