ONTARIO (AP) — The Oregon State Police is investigating a suicide at the Snake River Correctional Institution.
The Department of Corrections says 41-year-old Richard Cantu was found hanging in his cell Wednesday night. In prison since 2000, the serial rapist had a projected release date in 2042.
Cantu gained statewide attention in February 2000, when he escaped while leaving the Washington County Courthouse following his conviction on charges stemming from attacks on three women and a 13-year-old girl in Forest Grove.
