Fruitland still SRV champs
Grizzlies upends Weiser 28-7 to retain SRV title

WEISER-Tradition rallies a championship for Fruitland Friday night as the Grizzlies went to Weiser and took care of businesss with a 28-7 win, stealing what looked to be a SRV title for the Wolverines as they were undefeated coming into the game. But that old saying rang true for Fruitland "Your the champs until someone knocks you off." and Weiser could not get that job done.

The opening half was tightly played with Fruitland capitolizing on a Weiser turnover and one play later punching the ball into the end zone for the lone score in the first half.

The Grizzlies scored 21 second half points, whlle Wieser could only muster one score as John Srholec reached into his bag of tricks and burned the Grizzlies for a 21 yard hook-and-latteral play.

With the win, Fruitland earns the No. 1 seed, Payette gets the No. 2 seed and Weiser ends up as the third seed.

" I am so proud of all the kids in Payette, Weiser and Fruitland. I will be cheering for all of you. Thank you to all the parents that have posted on here with their messages of good luck. Its is very nice to see everyone showing the "negative nellies" some class and sportsmanship. "

" I think our little community should be VERY proud that we have three - count 'em - three SRV teams in the state tournament. Our teams have all worked hard to get where they are, and I will be happy to see any one of them win state. In fact, let's have our SRV teams get 1.2.3. Same with State soccer - it was great to see Payette's two teams, Fruitland, and Weiser all there representing! "

" Sorry, O.J., I don't think it can be done. Unless you're able to fly. "

" I returned from an out-of-town trip and read the news-- omg, look at the SRV. Eastern Idaho must be trembling at the thought. I know, Tiger Fans, we're going to have to hear how much harder it is to get to state on the western side of the river. Well, make it happen! Meanwhile, I'm gassing up the rig and looking at the schedule. I think, if I work it right, I can see Payette, Fruitland, and Weiser play in the next round. This will be a season to remember. "

" Yes in deed, good luck to all 3 teams. I agree the garbage talk needs to quit. It is not a good example for our kids. Again good luck to Fruitland, Weiser and Payette in the playoffs. "

" Amen to Payette Parent and Griz. We can be rivals on the field, but its so much better to be civil off the field and cut the negativity. We should be proud of our teams for what they accomplish. Best of luck to the teams in the playoffs. "

Griz wrote on Oct 26, 2009 3:20 PM:

" Payette Parent, Thanks for the kind words. It is nice to see something positive said instead of all the garbage posted on the other blogs. We should be proud of all of are area teams. Yes, rivals on the field but cheering the other teams on off of it. Good luck to all three teams, lets show them what the SRV is made of.. "

Payette Parent wrote on Oct 24, 2009 9:15 AM:

" Good Job Fruitland. You earned the title. Your children and coaches handled the loss to Payette last week with class and dignity. THe coaches and kids obviously prepared themselves for this game and came out and took care of business. Job well done. Good luck at State. "

" How does Weiser get the third seed in the deal? Seems to me the three teams need to have a playoff of some kind. "
