Lady Griz take third at state

Coeur d’Alene —The Fruitland Lady Grizzly volleyball team won its first two matches on Friday to advance to the semifinals, then its domination ran out losing  two matches on Saturday and settling for a third place finish.

In Saturday’s action, the Lady Griz lost its first match 3-0 to St. Maries (25-11, 26-24, 25-22), which knocked them into the consolation game where they met up with Kimberly — a team they had beaten on Friday 3-1.

However, Saturday was a different story and Kimberly got its pay back with a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-22, 25-21) to advance to the championship against St. Maries.

In Friday’s action, the Lady Griz began the tournament with a sweep over Priest River (25-14, 25-18,25-23) which pitted them against Kimberly in the quarterfinals.

Again Fruitland came away with the win, defeating Kimberly in four games, (14-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21).

" I was fortunate to attend the state tournament. I am so proud of our gals--they played their hearts out, and represented themselves, the school, and the SRV in a most respectable manner. I was particularly impressed with their first match with Kimberly. Kimberly had a very athletic group of girls, and dominated the first game. But rather than give up, the fhs girs dug in, played with poise, and rallied to three straight winning games. The team played as a team, with selflessness from all the girls. Congratulations to Coach Sitz for doing a tremendous job! Go Grizz!!! "
